Hotel Management in its new avatar is referred to as hospitality management. The course covers a wider spectrum of topics including all aspects of hoteliering, operations, food and beverage production, front office and sales and marketing- accommodating for the entire hospitality industry. The hospitality industry today comprises all the sunrise industries in India and the scope of jobs at present and in the future is tremendous.
At the management level, students are taught the basics of management-running a profitable business, finance management, facility management and revenue management. The programme goes beyond plain studies and works akin to a finishing school with its stress on all-round personality development.
Most of the recruitments take place on campus and are followed by compulsory training. Salaries after graduation vary depending on which industry you join. From hotels to multinationals they could range anywhere between Rs 8000 to Rs 20,000 for start-ups on a cost to company basis.
