How to prepare for study abroad for GRE Student

For any aspirant who has completed GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and pursues to study abroad, the experience can be one of the most rewarding and fascinating. But there are many difficulties which can prove to be the stumbling block in their admission in getting the right college and course. Despite, good scores, many universities give more importance to not just academic qualification, but on other achievements.

Almost all admission offices of many universities follow strict selection process, where non-academic achievements are considered a vital aspect for selection. It exhibits strong interpersonal skills, creativity and attitude. In order to prove their capabilities, students need to submit a certificate of participation in programmes like blood donation camps, awareness campaign etc. Aspirants can also submit his/her membership card in non-government organisation. Besides, he/she can submit his achievements in the field of sports, art, dance and cultural activities.

Besides, students should submit the student’s portfolio of past projects, patents (if any), paper presentations. Many students also present the personal document known as ‘Statement of Purpose (SOP)’, which explains the admissions committee about the student’s culture and background, professional interests, future goals, sponsorship details, personal details and future goals. Being a vital document, it gives a chance to the student to elaborate about him/herself directly to the admissions committee. Thus, it helps the student to stand out from among a group of qualified aspirants.

Preparing a good SOP is vital, which will definitely improve the chances of getting admission to the college or university of their choice, and sometimes even compensate for weaker portions of their application such as less-than-perfect grades. But a bad SoP, on the other hand, has the power to pull the application’s ranking.

Besides, Letter Of Recommendation (LOR) is another important document needed during the admission. It is a vital document that provides the admission staff of the university or college with a complete insight about the candidate. The letter aims to provide clear evidence of the student’s achievements, contributions and skills. If the candidate is a student, he/she needs to submit 2 LOR (Academic and Professional). Academic LOR, where universities ask for the student to submit letter requires the professor to highlight the applicant's accomplishments as a student of the course. Sometimes, two Academic LOR can be submitted in case of Master Programme (one from School and one from college (under graduate program)). Many colleges have a pre-defined work experience requirements. Accordingly, they request for a Professional LOR from an immediate supervisor or manager. Since, it focuses on the aspirant’s ability to work within a team, the exposure to the domain as well as his/her leadership abilities.
