The Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) invite applications from established scholars for funded academic visits of 1-3 months (and in exceptional cases a minimum of 2 weeks) to recognized research organisations (ROs), including universities and research institutes, in either country to undertake clearly specified research collaborations between themselves and their own research centre and research centres in the alternate country (either India or the Netherlands).

The purpose of this scheme is to strengthen the quality and potential of research in both countries by building greater research interaction. This scheme is for staff with an academic or research appointment, up to senior professors.

The Councils are particularly interested in applicants about to make major contributions in their research area. In this second round of exchange awards, the Councils are concerned to encourage applicants who have established, begun to establish, or are on the verge of establishing, international recognition in their research field. Early career and female researchers are especially invited to submit a proposal.

Eligibility

  1. Postgraduate in Social Sciences with at least 55% marks.
  2. The candidate should have cleared National Eligibility Test (NET for JRF/ Lecturership)/ M.Phil/ or two research articles published in reputed social sciences journals (reprints to be attached).
  3. The applicant must be registered for Ph.D Those who are not registered NEED not apply.

Age:-

The upper age limit for a doctoral fellow is below 35 years as on 1st July 2010 (relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST).

Fellowships with Salary Protection :

The applicants shall have put in at least two years continues service in the institution before they apply and the institution shall certify that it will maintain their lien on the post during the period of the fellowship and allow them to return to it after the period of fellowship is over.

In case of an employed scholar his/her salary will be protected.

In addition, a contingency grant of Rs.12,000/- per annum will also be paid. Duration of a salary-protected fellowship will, in no case, be more than two years.

Only short listed candidates will be called for interview. Applicants not in receipt of call letters NEED not correspond unnecessarily.

The Council reserves the right to reject any application without assigning any reason. The Council is also not responsible for any postal loss/delays in communications.

Assessment procedure

  1. The Councils expect to be able to make up to 10 awards during 2010-2011. The visit to be taken up during 2011, with a deadline of March 2012. The Councils expect but do not require that five of the visits will be to the Netherlands and the other five to India.
  2. The award for all the costs during the exchange visit will be made directly to the host institution in the country to be visited. These will be made by the ICSSR to host institutions in India, and by NWO to host institutions in the Netherlands. International travel and related costs will be handled in the country of the applicant.
  3. It is intended to make announcements about outcomes by not later than 31st October 2010, and earlier if possible. Awards will need to be taken up during 2011, and at the latest by 31 March 2012, or the offers will lapse.
