Indian Government offers around 38,000 scholarships for higher studies to deserving students in a range of subjects. These could range from undergraduate to postgraduate courses to PG Diploma courses as well as vocational courses in any of the following broad categories:
These scholarships are offered by the state and central Universities and other higher academic institutes across the country.
Eligibility
Candidates must be citizens of India and willing to do the course on full time basis and not employed anywhere.
Parental monthly income should not exceed Rs.25,000/-
Candidates who seek scholarship assistance must have scored at least 60% in the qualifying exam.
Financial Support
The scholarship amount differs from course to course. Depending on the nature of the course or whether the candidate requires residential stay/hostel expenses, the range of the financial support from these Indian national scholarships differs from Rs.10,000/- to Rs.36,000/- per annum.
Procedure
The educational Boards or Universities send copies of the provisionally selected candidates to the respective state government from which selection for the deserving candidates are made on merit basis. The scholarship is renewable within the same level of subject according to the performance of the candidate.
