Career In Acoustical Physics

Acoustics is the branch of physics that deals with the study of sound, ultrasound and infrasound .The generation, transmission and reception of energy in the form of vibrational waves in matter. A scientist who works in this field is called as acoustician. The application of acoustics in technology is called acoustical engineering.

A person who works as an 'acoustician' should be a physicist studying acoustic wave propagation, a mechanical engineer trying to control noise and vibration, an electrical engineer designing a new electro acoustic transducer.

There are many acoustical studies which are offered vibration and structural acoustics, musical acoustics, electro acoustics, architectural acoustics, psychoacoustics, underwater acoustics, medical ultrasonics.

Acoustics also has a considerable input to make in gathering information for military, geophysical, forensic and medical purposes. Sonar has been used for many decades for marine navigation as only sound waves can travel considerable distances underwater.
